MOBILIZING VOTERS WITH CULTURALLY RELEVANT OUTREACH

In 2020, Poder NC reached out to Latinx voters through an innovative Election Lotería mail program, among other outreach efforts. The mailers doubled as art and civic education. 

Playing the game of lotería has always been una tradición when we gather with friends and family. Whether it's with primos, vecinos, and now with other voters in the state of North Carolina, this game not only connects us with our heritage—it’s now a fun and easy way to learn about what politicians can (and can’t) do, and how to navigate the electoral process.

We are proud to have mobilized 38,000 Latinx voters who had been registered to vote since 2012 but had, at most, only voted once. These individuals finally felt seen enough to show up to the polls. These are the high opportunity voters that Poder is engaging, in addition to newly registered Latinx voters.
