Every generation has an opportunity to transform society and young people have always been agitators for necessary change.

Join the 2023 Statewide Youth Leadership Summit to expand your skills and make statewide connections with other young people who know that Democracy only works when we take action.

This youth summit will serve as a launch pad for the electoral work and energy that we want to harness into 2024.

Our Shared Purpose

Inspired by youth organizing legends like Ella Baker, Poder NC has invited partners: Siembra NC, Advance Carolina, & NextGen America to host Despierta Carolina: Statewide Youth Leadership Summit on November 18, 2023.

This all day event will be hosted in Durham and will feature workshops that guide us to dream about what a future North Carolina can look like for nuestra gente, our people. Attendees will learn, connect, and find others who are committed to building a state where regardless of zip code, all of us may have a chance to thrive.

Who is the target audience?

The event is for college-age youth, 18-25 (± 2yrs) to come share space with other young folks that call NC home and are invested in a forward-moving political landscape in North Carolina.

We share progressive values, and are mobilizing for a better state.

We seek to learn more and better organizing skills to expand our political impact.

We have a keen focus on connecting with Black and brown youth since these are the communities most impacted by regressive policies and laws coming from our state leaders.

Despierta Carolina FAQs

What food will be provided?
- Saturday morning we will have ‘Cafe con Pan,’ lunch will be catered by Boricua Soul, and stay for the after party for some tamales.
Can I attend part of the event?
- While we encourage attendees to stay for the entire day, we’re happy to have you join us for as much of the event as possible.
What are the Covid and safety guidelines?
- We encourage all attendees to be up to date on their COVID-19 and flu vaccines.
- We encourage you to follow the masking practices that make you feel most comfortable in a group setting.
How does parking work?
- All attendees can park on the lot at the ReCity facility. Additional city street parking is available and free on the weekend hours. Please see graphic for downtown parking.
