Contact NC GOP House to Oppose SB 101
Join Poder NC in contacting the GOP (Republican) House Representatives in the North Carolina General Assembly (NCGA) to oppose Senate Bill 101, which requires county Sheriffs' cooperation with ICE 2.0. This bill will deepen fears and distrust from immigrant communities towards law enforcement. It is also a gross overreach from legislators who are telling duly elected Sheriffs how to do their job or else risk criminal charges.
At the end of the day, this bill is a way to force Sheriffs to do the will of disgruntled legislators who can't seem to get over the fact that Black Sheriffs have chosen to build trust with their immigrant community members by doing away with the 287g program that has been tearing our families apart.
On March 11, 2021, SB 101 was passed in the Senate, and it will now move to the House. Let's urge the GOP House to vote against this harmful bill and focus on actual things harming our communities, such as the pandemic that continues to wreak havoc in our state and is disproportionately devastating Black and Brown communities.
